ABL – Advanced Bioenergy Lab Austria eGen

Profil:

AGGM Austrian Gas Grid Management AG

Alpacem by Wietersdorfer

In the production of the clinker required for this, high quantities of CO2 are emitted in the conventional clinker production process. Around two thirds of these CO2 emissions come from the burning of limestone and one third from the provision of the thermal energy required for this.
In order to make the necessary contribution to the European Union’s ambitious plans for a green transition, great efforts are already being made to decarbonise the clinker production process.
Hydrogen has great potential to contribute to these plans: on the one hand, hydrogen could serve as a CO2-free source of thermal energy in the future; on the other hand, new products could be manufactured from captured CO2 in combination with hydrogen (CCU – Carbon Capture and Utilisation).

Evonik Peroxid GmbH

The legal entity belongs to the specialty chemicals group Evonik and is part of their business line Active Oxygens. This business line focuses on sustainability with the guiding principle „Sustainability is at the core of futurizing our business“. Therefore, a roadmap with different steps has been defined, with the clear goal of zero climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions by 2040. Hydrogen peroxide decomposes into water and oxygen once the application has been completed. Therefore, no toxic by-products or co-products that could harm people or the environment are generated.
This unique chemical property makes hydrogen peroxide a sustainable chemical that can replace other, less sustainable chemicals in a range of applications. So, we are interested and support the HycentA research GmbH initiative, so that we receive green hydrogen at our site for the production process, in order to replace the grey produced hydrogen from the steam-methane reform process.
